Predator Bio

Getting started on the second  most important team in my universe after the Gavel: the Rusted Gears Initiative or RGI (members are sometimes jokingly referred to as "Reggies"). The name refers to the team being the rusty gears in the government machine. In actuality they are fugitives from the United States draft that required all superhumans to work for the military, and their impressive ability to elude captivity has caused the government no shortage of headaches. The Reggies have some trouble laying low, however, because seemingly everywhere they go they find themselves in a situation where the people have need of their superpowers. Whenever they help out, they find the Gavel hot on their tail once more.

Powers: Superhuman speed, strength, agility, and flexibility. Enhanced senses. Extremely high pain threshold.

Personality: Predator is very impulsive. She's always the first into a fight, and she seems almost animalistic at times. Despite this, she's not incapable of reeling herself in if need be. She has a great respect for Arachnid's capabilities as a leader, and whenever he needs something done, Predator will do it to the best of her abilities, even if it goes against her instincts. Predator and Arachnid have something of a war chief/peace chief dynamic in their relationship. When it comes to team things, Arachnid is always completely in control, no questions asked. In their private lives, however, it's predator who's in charge. 

Weaknesses: Predator is impulsiv and headstrong, and her high pain threshold often causes her to underestimate just how bad her injuries are. This combination can sometimes cause her to push herself too hard, putting her body at risk.

Backstory: Predator is a second generation mutant. Kaylan, her mother, was the first in the family to display powers which she passed on to both of her children. Kaylan had never had much in the way of education, but she supported her children by using her powers as a construction worker. Unfortunately, she had an accident one day when she dropped a heavy metal beam by mistake and severely injured a coworker. She was fired from her job, and, desperate to get enough income to support Artemis and Hunter, she turned to theft. Initially, this seemed to work. The police were helpless against her. Unfortunately, the problem became bad enough that the government sent their newly recruited superweapon, Beatdown, to bring her in. Beatdown was only trying to arrest Kaylan, but the woman's high pain threshold and unwillingness to stop fighting eventually forced him to resort to lethal measures.

Hunter and Artemis were left with only their good-for-nothing father as a parent, and because he clearly wasn't fit to handle two children, much less two superhumans, the siblings were turned over to the custody of the state. The two grew up in an orphanage with specially trained handlers to discipline the powerful children. This wasn't perfect for Artemis, but is wasn't as bad as it might have been. Artemis had been too young to ever remember having a mother. She hated Beatdown and the government, but not to the extent that she was going to try to do anything rash about it. Hunter was a different story. He was a few years older than his sister, and when he lost is mother something inside of him snapped. He began acting strange, and Artemis sometimes found small animals brutally killed around the orphanage. Then, one day, he disappeared. He has not been heard from since. 

When Beatdown went AWOL to find his kidnapped family, the government overreacted in a big way. Seeing this loss of their poster boy as a sign of weakness, they began drafting every superhuman they could find into the military. Artemis was among the first to be brought in for training. She was given the code name Predator, and was confined to a top-security military base. She still disliked the government for what had happened to her mother, and she hated being confined, so when she caught wind of a rumor that fellow draftee Arachnid was organizing an escape, she was only too happy to join up. She joined the Rusted Gears Initiative and after the escape began to realize that she had feelings for Arachnid. He was something she could always count on in her unstable life. She, on the other hand, helped him to get out of his own head and de-stress. Their relationship has not been without its hiccups, but it remains fairly strong.
